Journey

The “Discover Domfront” application invites you to relive the significant moments in the history of the castle and the medieval city of Domfront. The castle circuit (1 hour), accessible to people with reduced mobility, will introduce you to characters who will immerse you in the past: the conquest of the Domfront region by William the Conqueror to extend the Duchy of Normandy, life at the court of Eleanor of Aquitaine, the residence of Chrétien de Troyes who reportedly wrote Lancelot or the Knight of the Cart here, episodes from the Hundred Years War… From atop the castle, enjoy an exceptional panorama and an augmented reality landscape reading of the Domfront area and the legendary sites of the Pont de l’Epée and the Pont sous l’Eau. In the town, during the city tour (1.2 km, 1 hour), the sound scenes invite you to share daily life in the Middle Ages: commerce, craftsmanship, defence of the city… At the foot of the ancient city, by the rocks, along the banks of the Varenne river during a 3.3 km walk (1 hour 15), you will be immersed, like a 19th-century traveller, in the picturesque atmosphere of the tormented landscapes around Domfront, a source of inspiration for painters and writers. Throughout these three walks, let Domfront tell you its story: dramatised scenes, games and quizzes await you for a playful visit. On site, the application can be downloaded from the Tourist Office in Domfront.
